The Swiss midfielder has inched closer to leaving Arsenal.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is reportedly close to joining Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.

Xhaka arrived at Arsenal on the back of an incredible four-year spell at Borussia Monchengladbach. Despite his struggle for consistency, the Swiss international has remained a crucial part of Arsenal’s midfield line in recent seasons.

Xhaka’s current contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in 2024. However, it seems the 30-year-old is keen to leave the club in the upcoming transfer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there are no negotiations with Xhaka over a new contract. The Sky Sports journalist claims that Bayer Leverkusen have emerged as Xhaka’s main suitors.

The German side are close to signing the experienced midfielder on a €15m contract. Xhaka has already agreed to personal terms with Leverkusen over a four-year contract.

Xhaka came close to leaving Arsenal last summer, but his move to Roma fell through in the final stages. The midfielder’s possible departure in the summer could force the Gunners to sign a replacement.

According to Record, Arsenal are eyeing a move for Feyenoord’s Orkun Kokcu in the upcoming transfer window.
The Turkish international will reportedly be available for £34m. However, Arsenal could face competition from Liverpool and Sevilla for his signature.
