After missing the end of the previous season through injuries, the five Arsenal players were back in action for the first week of pre-season.

Gabriel Martinelli, Mohamed Elneny, William Saliba, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Oleksandr Zinchenko returned to training for Arsenal this past week.

The five players missed the end of last season with injury problems. But they have all progressed, having made it back for the start of pre-season. They’ve each joined the Arsenal squad in Germany.

According to the Evening Standard, the five players are at different stages of their fitness. Elneny is the furthest from being match fit. The midfielder had an operation on his knee in January. The club is also easing Saliba back into training after a back injury.

On a brighter note, Tomiyasu has recovered well from a knee injury. Martinelli and Zinchenko are both fit again following ankle and calf problems.

Arsenal will face FC Nurnberg in a friendly on Thursday. Mikel Arteta will decide whether any of these five players will feature against the second-tier German club. The manager has taken a squad of 30 to Germany.

After the exhibition, Arteta’s men will fly back to London to recover. They will then head off to the United States for their pre-season tour.

Arsenal hope to have Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber on board before then. The Gunners have deals in place to sign both players. While no official announcement has been made, Rice has been keeping his fitness up by training in Portugal.
