Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn has sounded a warning over transfer interest in Gunners strike duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Nigel Winterburn expects speculation surrounding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to resurface once the January transfer window opens.

Despite signing a new lucrative contract last year, Aubameyang remains a subject of transfer speculation. There were rumors linking him to Manchester City, Barcelona and Juventus this summer. The Arsenal captain, however, has stayed put at the Emirates Stadium.

Although Lacazette’s future is less certain, as he enters the final year of his contract. Despite rumored interest from Barcelona as well, the striker is still a Gunner for now at least.

But Winterburn feels both Aubameyang and Lacazette’s futures could be up in the air again if Arsenal cannot launch a top-four challenge in the Premier League.

“Potentially, but it’s very difficult to say because Aubameyang signed that new deal, so I would be surprised if he was pushing to move away,” the former Gunners left-back told Goal on the prospect.

“His form wasn’t great last season, and he needs to pick that up before anything.

“Lacazette is the one into his last year, so that would be the most likely scenario that he could leave if someone came in with an offer.

“It would depend on where Arsenal are in the table and whether someone can be brought in to fill that role. If they let one of those two go, then we’ll be left so short upfront.

“We’re already a little short in that area at the minute, but when we get to January the rumors may surface again with Arsenal potentially looking to bring someone in.”

Arsenal will need Aubameyang and Lacazette in top form for their upcoming Premier League match against Norwich next weekend, as they seek a first win of the season.
