The Gunners forward could be out for up to three months after suffering a knee injury at the World Cup.
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit thinks the club should consider Wilfried Zaha, Allan Saint-Maximin, or Christian Pulisic as cover for the injured Gabriel Jesus.
Jesus has undergone knee surgery after suffering an injury at World Cup with Brazil. According to various reports, the 25-year-old could miss around three months of action. And while Arsenal have Eddie Nketiah available, Petit reckons signing a new attacker in January is necessary.
The Frenchman also dismissed talk of a move for Benfica striker Goncalo Ramos, instead naming three ready-made replacements for the Premier League leaders.
“They need reinforcements in the transfer market,” Petit told OddsBetting.
“There was talk about Goncalo Ramos and although he scored a hat-trick against Switzerland, I think it’s too early. He didn’t have any impact against Morocco. No headers, no runs, no hold up. He disappeared on the pitch yesterday [Saturday] and I think he’s a good player, he’s doing a good job at Benfica but he’s not my first option.
“Zaha from Palace, Saint-Maximin from Newcastle, or Pulisic from Chelsea would be my three they should target. Pulisic will fit perfectly with what [Arsenal manager Mikel] Arteta wants. He loves playing one-touch football with good movement and he lives in London, so it will be an easy switch.”
Arsenal resume their campaign in a Boxing Day clash with fellow London side West Ham United on December 26.
