A thigh injury prevented the Ghana international from reporting for national duty, and it will continue to hold him back for a further while.

Thomas Partey will remain unavailable for selection for Sunday’s meeting against Leeds United, Arsenal have confirmed.

The late summer signing picked up a knock in the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa prior to the November international break.

He was diagnosed with a thigh injury and subsequently denied the opportunity to participate in Ghana’s African Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Sudan.

On Friday, Arsenal announced on their official website that Partey will also miss the trip to Ellan Road on Premier League return.

A statement on the medical report read: “Thomas was replaced at half-time during the match against Aston Villa and has sustained a strain to his left thigh.

“Continues to be assessed, will not be available for this weekend’s match and will continue his rehabilitation.”

Mohamed Elneny and Sead Kolasinac are the other players whom Mikel Arteta will not be able to call upon, with the pair still recovering after contracting COVID-19 while on international duty.

Pablo Mari and Gabriel Martinelli, both of whom had long been on the sidelines with ankle and knee problems respectively, have made significant progress in rehabilitation.
