The Gunners are on the verge of making their first major transfer of the summer.

Arsenal have reportedly struck a deal to sign Fabio Vieira from Porto ahead of the next season.

Vieira spent an impressive breakthrough campaign at Porto last season. The 22-year-old registered six goals and 14 assists in 27 appearances for the Dragons as they claimed another league title.

The Portuguese star’s performances attracted interest from several clubs. However, it seems the Gunners have won the transfer race for the Porto star.

According to the Guardian, Porto have accepted Arsenal’s offer of £30m plus add-ons. The midfielder will reportedly have a medical on Friday before signing a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Vieira had a €50m release clause in his contract, but the Gunners have managed to sign him on a lower fee. The player was reportedly eager to kick-start his Premier League career, with Arsenal offering him a convincing sporting project.

The Gunners came close to sealing a Champions League spot last season but failed to do so in the final stages of the campaign. Squad reinforcements this summer should give Mikel Arteta another chance to bring his side back to the elite competition.

Vieira is set to become Arsenal’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The Gunners have already announced the signing of 19-year-old forward Marquinhos, who will join the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in Arsenal’s attacking line.
