The Gunners have extended the contract of one of their most promising forwards ahead of the next season.

Arsenal have announced Eddie Nketiah has signed a new five-year contract at the club.

The striker had rejected several contract offers with the club, running down his old deal at the Emirates. However, following a successful 2021-22 campaign, he has now committed his future to the Gunners.

Nketiah becomes the latest academy star at Arsenal to earn a contract extension. Before him, Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe had signed new deals with the Gunners.

The new contract sees Nketiah take on Arsenal’s legendary No.14 shirt, which belonged to the club’s all-time top-scorer Thierry Henry.

Speaking to the club’s website, Mikel Arteta expressed his excitement over Nketiah’s new deal.

“I’m delighted Eddie is staying with us,” the Arsenal manager said.

“He represents what we are all about and all the values of the club.

“We are very happy that he has extended his contract and now we have to get to work and continue to develop the great talent and person that we have in him.”

Arsenal will kick-start their pre-season campaign with a friendly game against FC Nurnberg on July 8. The Gunners will then take on Everton and Orlando City in their next matches before the start of the new season.
