The Gunners will have to play without their star striker for a few months.

Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah is eager to step up and cover for Gabriel Jesus’ absence after the World Cup.

Jesus underwent knee surgery after picking up a knock during the World Cup.

Given the Brazilian’s crucial role in Arsenal’s lineup, the Gunners are desperate to find a solution for their attacking line.

Reports have emerged of Mikel Arteta’s interest in returning Florian Balogun from his loan deal at Reims. But with Nketiah, Arsenal already have a motivated striker in their squad.

“Of course, it is an opportunity for myself,” Nketiah said. “These things happen in football, unfortunately, so you’ve just got to be ready for the moment when it comes.

“I have been working hard, I’ve been working hard all season and I’m sure when I get the opportunity I’ll be able to come in and help the team.”

Nketiah was close to leaving Arsenal last season. However, a string of impressive displays toward the end of the campaign earned him a new deal at Emirates.

With Jesus’ arrival in the summer, Nketiah, once again, saw Arteta limit his game time. But he will have an opportunity to establish his place in the Gunners’ lineup after the World Cup break.

The Premier League leaders will return to action with a home game against West Ham on December 28.
