The Gunners could lose one of their experienced midfielders for free next summer.
As Jorginho’s Arsenal contract inches towards its final eight months, the 31-year-old midfielder has hinted at a potential return to Serie A.
Jorginho joined Arsenal from Chelsea in January for £12 million, signing a one-and-a-half-year deal. Despite an option to extend, contract negotiations have hit a roadblock, leaving Jorginho free to enter talks with non-British clubs for a pre-contract agreement in January.
Speaking ahead of Italy’s Euro 2024 qualifier against North Macedonia, Jorginho said of a possible return to Serie A: “I’m very much in doubt, I would like to return, but I don’t know when the right time would be.
“I want to return yes, but I don’t know when, I feel I still have things to do at Arsenal. It always takes time when you change teams, but the first six months at Arsenal were not negative, on the contrary.”
Despite a slow start to the season, Jorginho has returned to Arsenal’s starting lineup since Thomas Partey’s injury. The Italy international has started four of Arsenal’s last five matches.
During the summer transfer window, Jorginho was linked with moves to several clubs, including Fenerbahce. However, he decided to stay and fight for his place in Mikel Arteta’s lineup despite growing competition in Arsenal’s lineup. Let’s see if the 31-year-old would choose to end his Premier League career next year.
