Arsenal and Tottenham are both interested in a move for Bayern defender Jerome Boateng, with the defender set to be available in a few months.
According to a report, Arsenal are plotting a move to beat fierce rivals Tottenham to the summer signing of Jerome Boateng on a free transfer.
As confirmed by the club, the 32-year-old will not be offered a contract extension this summer and will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the current campaign.
For a good number of years, Boateng has been one of Europe’s finest central defenders. However, he has been deemed surplus to requirements by the Bavarian giants ahead of next season.
He has featured on 32 occasions in all competitions since the beginning of the current campaign, helping Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga standings as they aim to seal yet another domestic trophy.
However, Bayern have already sealed the signing of RB Leipzig star Dayot Upamecano ahead of next season, and this will in turn have a domino effect on Boateng.
Since his immediate future was confirmed earlier this month, he has been heavily linked with a number of Premier League sides.
We already reported about Tottenham’s interest in the German, with Chelsea also monitoring the player’s situation as well.
Manchester United have also been mentioned in connection with Boateng on a number of occasions.
Arsenal appear set to become the next club to enter the race for his signature in the coming months, according to Sky Sport Germany.
The Gunners are firmly in contention to land the experienced center-back but it is claimed that Spurs are in pole position to secure his services.
Boateng is reportedly keen on a return to the Premier League after leaving Manchester City to join Bayern a decade ago. Mikel Arteta could do with some experience in defense and not many will do better than the German in that regard.
In fact, the Gunners have been long-time admirers of Boateng and have been linked with the German defender since way back as 2019.
