The Gunners are planning to make a heavy investment in refurbishing their home stadium.

It might come as a surprise to older Arsenal fans, but it’s been 16 years since the club replaced the historic Highbury with the Emirates.

In recent months, several reports have emerged from fans who complain about the roof of the stadium leaking. The Gunners fans were especially annoyed to watch LA Rams winning the NFL Super Bowl on Sunday.

Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke also holds the majority of the Rams’ shares. Kroenke’s £5billion investment in the NFL franchise has intensified criticism over his negligence toward the Emirates’ condition.

A new report from the Telegraph claims Arsenal’s management are lining up heavy investments for the next summer. In addition to fixes and overall revamp, the club will most likely upgrade the stadium’s technology.

Other Premier League frontrunners have already either started or announced their plans for redeveloping their stadiums.

Manchester City and Liverpool continue their plans of renovating their stadiums while Tottenham’s stadium is only two years old. Chelsea and Manchester United, who both have attracted criticism for the condition of their stadiums, have recently announced plans to improve their stadiums.

Arsenal, however, has suffered more financial losses compare to those clubs in recent years. In addition to the pandemic’s impact on the club’s income streams, their absence in the European games have further limited their financial options.

Continuing with their tight race for a top-four finish, the Gunners will host Brentford in their next league game on Saturday.
