Arsenal have rejected Wolves’ first offer for Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The bid was deemed considerably low by the Gunners.

Wolves will have to up their bid if they are to stand a chance of landing Maitland-Niles from Arsenal.

The 22-year-old is reportedly in search of a new challenge and is open to leaving the Emirates this summer.

For a player of his profile, it’s no surprise Maitland-Niles will attract quite a number of suitors.

Wolves are among the sides interested in the Englishman, with Nuno Santos showing a keen interest in the player.

Wolves stepped up their interest by making a bid for Maitland-Niles but it appears their offer was knocked back immediately.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that the Fosun-international owned club placed a bid below £20m for the 22-year-old.

Arsenal have no interest in selling at that price and will only entertain offers excess of £20m at least.

Indeed, the Gunners are keen on selling a few players to raise cash for other transfers but they are not willing to be under-priced.

Wolves aren’t the only club interested but are reportedly willing to offer the player a four-year deal.

Newcastle have also been linked with the player, while the report adds that two clubs from Germany are also keeping tabs.

While the transfer saga continues to drag on, Maitland-Niles was a starter for the Gunners in their 4-1 pre-season victory over MK Dons on Tuesday.
