The Gunners have added a new goalkeeper to their ranks ahead of the new EPL season.
Arsenal have reached an agreement to sign Brentford David Raya despite interest from Bayern Munich.
Raya emerged as an option for Bayern, who hoped to sign him as Yann Sommer’s replacement. However, with both Raya and Brentford rejecting Bayern’s offer, Arsenal used the opportunity to complete another summer signing.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal will pay around £30m for Raya, who will have his medical at the club this week. Raya is on the verge of signing a contract until June 2028 at Emirates.
Raya becomes Arsenal’s fourth summer signing following the transfers of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber. Arsenal’s total spending in the summer transfer window will reach £240m after Raya’s arrival.
Raya has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most promising keepers since joining Brentford for £2.7m from Blackburn in 2019. Last season, the Spaniard made 38 league appearances for the Bees, keeping 12 clean sheets.
As Arsenal prepare to return to the Champions League this season, Mikel Arteta has improved his squad’s depth in key areas.
Raya will provide more competition for Aaron Ramsdale. He might even play a part in the team’s cup matches from the start of the new campaign.
