Arsenal pair Martinelli & Gabriel named in Brazil Olympics squad

A defender and forward frm the Gunners team have been selected in the 22-man list represent their nation in the games in Tokyo.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes and winger Gabriel Martinelli have been named in the Brazil team for the Olympics.

Clubs are not obligated to release players for the Olympics as the tournament is not a part of the official football calendar.

On Friday, Brazil’s football confederation announced they are making thing three chances to the original squad for the Tokyo games after Marseille and Zenit refused to allow Pedro, Gerson, and Malcolm, respectively, to join the team.

Arsenal pair Martinelli and Gabriel replaced those players and so did Everton star Richarlison. PAOK midfielder Douglas Augusto and Real Madrid midfielder Reinier, currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, joined up as well.

Additionally, Vasco da Gama goalkeeper Lucao, CSKA Moscow defender Bruno Fuchs, Athletico Paranaense’s Abner, Borussia Dortmund loanee Reinier were added to the team.

Neymar and Marquinhos, meanwhile, were also not allowed by Paris Saint-Germain to represent Brazil at the Olympic games, which will start later this month.
