A deal is reportedly in place to end the defender’s Gunners nightmare after failing to make a single appearance.

William Saliba is on the verge of a return to Ligue 1 with Nice on loan for the rest of the season, according to reports from France.

The 19-year-old joined Arsenal last summer from Saint-Etienne, a year after first agreeing to join the club in a €30m deal. He was intent on making his mark in Mikel Arteta’s squad. Over six months later, however, he’s yet to make his first-team debut or even make the matchday squad in the Premier League.

Arteta has kept faith in using Rob Holding, Gabriel, Pablo Mari, and David Luiz as his main center-back options for this season.

Now French outlet Nice-Matin claims Saliba will join Nice on loan. He will undergo a medical at the Allianz Riviera on Monday before putting pen-to-paper on a deal until the end of the season. No buy option, however, has been included.

Arsenal have also agreed to cover Saliba’s reported £40,000-per-week salary as part of the agreement.

The former Saint-Etienne star could debut for Nice in the Ligue 1 trip to Brest on Wednesday evening.
