The former England and Manchester City boss gave his views on the title battle that is brewing between his old club and Arsenal.
Sven-Goran Eriksson has backed Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League, but feels the depth of quality inside the Manchester City squad means Pep Guardiola’s side remain the ‘big favorites’.
A 1-0 win at Leeds over the weekend moved the table-topping Gunners four points clear of City, who lost 1-0 to Liverpool, and Tottenham in the standings with nine wins in 10 games this season.
“I think Arsenal can win the league,” Eriksson, who coached Manchester City during the 2007/08 season, told OLBG.
“But if you look at the squad, Manchester City are outstanding. They can change almost 11 players, and you don’t notice it. For me, the big favorites are still Man City.
“There are many games to play, but congratulations to Arsenal and Mikel Arteta; it’s been a very long time since they won the Premier League.
“It’s good to see a big and important club with a fantastic history. I think they will fight to win the league, but I still think Manchester City will do it.”
Because of their Europa League match against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday, Arsenal and Manchester City’s league fixture for today has been postponed until further notice.
