The Ghana star missed Arsenal’s match against Brighton with a thigh injury last week.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hints the season might be over for Thomas Partey after his new injury setback.

Following back to back defeats against Crystal Palace and Brighton, Arsenal will return to Premier League action to meet Southampton on Saturday.

It’s a must-win battle for the Gunners, who have slipped three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham in the past two weeks. Arteta’s side, however, have to deal with the long-term injuries of some of their best players. In addition to Kieran Trippier, the Gunners might have to spend the rest of the season without Partey.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta provided a fitness update on the Ghanaian star.

He said (via Football.london): “The news that we got after another assessment is not looking very positive for his availability this season,”

“At the moment we’re not very optimistic.”

Asked about the Premier League’s top-four race, the Spaniard responded: “There’s going to be some twists still for sure and the pressure and situation is going to keep changing between now and the end of the season. We have to be focused on us and what we have to do.

“Every game [is important], but obviously when you lose, the next game takes more importance and we know that.”
