Arsenal might have received a boost in their pursuit of Houssem Aouar after the latest incident the player got involved in with Lyon.
Arsenal target Houssem Aouar has reportedly been left out of Lyon’s squad this weekend. The news will come as an unexpected transfer boost for the Gunners.
The Frenchman refused to take part in a team warm-down after he was an unused substitute in his side’s 1-0 win over Angers on Sunday.
The half-hour warm-down had been scheduled by coaching staff in place of training on Monday but Aouar reportedly claimed he did not want to take part due to the condition of the pitch.
And Lyon sporting director Juninho and director of football Vincent Ponsot have decided to teach the player a lesson following his refusal to leave the dressing room, according to L’Equipe.
The French outlet claims the 22-year-old will be omitted from the squad entirely when Lyon host Reims in Ligue 1 this Sunday.
The news will no doubt catch the attention of Arsenal boss Arteta, who is expected to renew his interest in the attacking midfielder when the transfer window re-opens.
Aouar was one of the Gunners’ top targets during the summer, along with fellow midfielder Thomas Partey.
But while the north London side landed Partey from Atletico Madrid with a £45 million swoop on deadline day, Lyon were adamant over their £55m valuation of Aouar and Arsenal missed out.
Arsenal have failed to create chances of late and they could no doubt use a player like the Lyon man in their ranks.
