The Gunners skipper produced arguably a miss of the season contender during the Premier League clash with Newcastle on Saturday.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright insists Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has ‘no excuse’ for his poor miss against Newcastle United.

With the scoreline tied at 0-0, Aubameyang had a golden opportunity to put Arsenal ahead. Martin Dubravka’s save from an Emile Smith-Rowe effort saw the ball fall to his feet inside the six-yard box. However, to the shock of the home crowd at the Emirates, a seemingly easy opportunity turned into a missed one when he struck the post.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta eventually replaced Aubameyang with Alexandre Lacazette in the second half.

“Poor finishing. That’s a great chance. It’s a fantastic ball,” Wright told Premier League Productions.

“It is quite an easy save for the goalkeeper. For me, Emile Smith Rowe has to score first of all from where he is. ‘But this [Aubameyang’s miss], there is no excuse for that. I don’t know what to say.”

Fortunately for Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli spared his blushes by scoring two second-half goals to seal Arsenal a 2-0 win.

The Gabon international will be out for a bit of redemption on Thursday when Arteta’s men visit Manchester United for their next Premier League match.
