The Real Madrid star has seen his game time reduced significantly this season.
Marco Asensio is spending the last 14 months of his contract at Santiago Bernabeu. With no signs of a potential renewal being imminent, the player’s agents have already started looking for possible transfer destinations.
Spanish outlets have claimed the 26-year-old might still end up extending his deal at Santiago Bernabeu. However, the club’s proposed salary of €5m per year is reportedly below Asensio’s demands.
This season, the Real Madrid star has featured in 34 games for the Blancos. But with most of his appearances being from the bench, his average game-time per match is only 50 minutes.
Competition from Vinicius Junior and Eden Hazard has limited Asensio’s chances of getting more time on the pitch. However, the player is still ahead of Hazard in the team’s pecking order.
“We are proud of Milan’s interest,” said Asensio’s agent, as quoted by Sportmediaset. “The Rossoneri [Milan] are an option even if there are offers from a couple of English clubs, including Arsenal. We are ready to evaluate every option.”
Last September, reports emerged of Arsenal’s rejected bid of £34million for Asensio. The Gunners have reportedly reignited their interest in the Spaniard as they continue searching for midfield reinforcements.
Arsenal’s chances of playing in the Champions League might become a deciding factor for Asensio. Milan will most certainly play in the European competition next year, while Arsenal have a tough top-four battle to fight in the last phase of the campaign.
After a surprising 3-0 defeat against Crystal Palace, the Gunners will face Brighton this weekend. Mikel Arteta’s side hope to reclaim their fourth spot on the table after their arch-rivals Tottenham moved into the top four last weekend.
