Arsenal are reportedly looking to hijack Liverpool’s long-standing pursuit of wantaway Bayern Munich playmaker Thiago Alcantara.

Thiago has entered the final year of his contract at Bayern and has already informed the club of his will to leave for the Premier League move.

Despite harboring a mutual desire of unification, Liverpool and Alcantara may still have to wait for another year to fulfill their wishes.

With the Reds refusing to meet the £27million asking price, the 29-year-old Spaniard could either remain at the Allianz Arena until his contract expiry or more elsewhere.

According to the Express Sport, Arsenal could be a potential destination for Thiago, as Mikel Arteta hopes to hijack Jurgen Klopp’s interest in the Spanish metronome.

The Gunnars are reportedly looking to benefit from Liverpool’s frugal transfer policy to steal the former Barcelona star away.

However, the London giants will first have to offload Lucas Torreira and Mohamed Elneny, who are both up for sale, as Arteta needs to raise funds for his summer activity.

Matteo Guendouzi is also on his way out of the Emirates after having a falling out with the manager, which will open more space in the midfield.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, Thiago has already named Liverpool as his preferred destination and could be willing to wait for another year before completing a switch.

Despite facing the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer, Bayern Munich are hell-bent on keeping the experienced playmaker for next term.
