The Gunners made it to the Carabao Cup 4th round after a comfortable victory over the League One side.

Although Arsenal eased past Wimbledon 3-0 on Wednesday, Mikel Arteta insists “it was always a tough game.”

Alexandre Lacazette, who was wearing the armband for Arsenal on the night, opened the scoring just after the 10-minute mark, converting a penalty awarded due to a foul on Gabriel Martinelli in the area.

Emile Smith Rowe increased his side’s advantage late in the second half before Eddie Nketiah sealed the win with a brilliant backheel goal.

“As long as we were 1-0 up, they were obviously still in the game and any situation like a set-piece, you can concede a goal, so we knew that we had to close the game down,” Arteta told in his post-match press conference.

“We did that at the end and it looked comfortable, but it was always a tough game.”

Arsenal resume Premier League action on the weekend by welcoming local rivals Tottenham at the Emirates.

Arteta added: “It’s really important because confidence raises competition and brings the best out of you, when you have difficult moments.

“Now the boys have won three matches in a row so credit for how they have handled that situation and now they are really looking forward to playing on Sunday, which is the biggest day of the season for us so far at home.”
