The Gunners have issued an update about their squad ahead of the New Year’s Day clash with Manchester City.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah has tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the club’s Premier League match against Manchester City.

In a brief statement on Twitter, Arsenal confirmed Nketiah’s absence from the matchday squad with the message: “Nketiah misses out today after testing positive with Covid. Get well soon, Eddie.”

The 22-year-old hoped to make his first appearance since scoring a hat-trick in the 5-1 EFL Cup win over Sunderland on December 21. However, he will instead spend the next 10 days in self-isolation.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is also unavailable to face City, having tested positive for COVID-19 recently.

Tomiyasu returns to the line-up

On the other hand, Arsenal have welcomed Takehiro Tomiyasu back to their line-up for the New Year’s Day clash.

The Japanese right-back’s inclusion is the only change made to the line-up that defeated Norwich 5-0 last weekend. He missed the trip to Carrow Road after testing positive for COVID-19.

Ben White, who started as a right-back in the Norwich win, has moved back into central defense at the expense of Rob Holding, who has returned to the bench.
