Rio Ferdinand believes Saka is still not a “world-class” player despite his consistent impact at Arsenal.
Bukayo Saka has enjoyed exceptional form in recent weeks, netting five goals in Arsenal’s last five Premier League fixtures. The England international’s performances have been key in the Gunners’ return to the EPL title race since the start of the new year.
However, according to Rio Ferdinand, Saka still has to prove himself at Europe’s most elite competition to claim his “world class” status.
“I think Saka’s been unreal,” Ferdinand said on Vibe with Five. “I actually think he needs a bit of a rest, so many games for a young kid.
“But I think, it’s almost like what is world-class? He hasn’t done it in the Champions League, has he? I’m talking in the nitty-gritty stages.
“Saka’s top, don’t get me wrong. He’s not world-class yet.”
At the age of only 22, Saka has already scored 50 goals in his 210 appearances for Arsenal. The young winger has started to accumulate Champions League experience this season, featuring in five group-stage matches for the Gunners.
Arsenal will face Burnley in a Premier League game on Saturday before meeting Porto in their next Champions League game three days later.
