The Hammers have emerged as the main suitors for the Arsenal playmaker.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that Emil Smith Rowe needs more minutes to regain his best form.
Smith Rowe has struggled with fitness and form issues throughout the current season, making only six Premier League appearances for the Gunners. Despite making his return from a knee injury last month, the 23-year-old hasn’t been able to reclaim his place in Arsenal’s starting lineup.
Alongside Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips, Smith Rowe has emerged as West Ham’s target for a possible six-month loan deal.
Asked about the midfielder’s transfer situation, Arteta told reporters on Friday: “We know he’s got incredible qualities and we’re really happy to have him.
“What he needs now is chances to put all the desire and quality that he has on the pitch. In order to do that we have to give him minutes.”
The Arsenal manager added: “I’m really happy with Emile. He’s in the right trajectory. Now, he’s settled, he’s training really well and you know i’m not going to talk about individual situations.”
Arsenal will take on Crystal Palace in their next Premier League game on Saturday before meeting Nottingham Forest three days later.
