The Gunners have sold USA goalkeeper Matt Turner to Nottingham Forest as they prepare to complete a deal for David Raya.

Goalkeeper Matt Turner has moved from Arsenal to Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed transfer fee.

The transfer adds a new twist to the Premier League, as Arsenal prepare to complete a surprise deal for David Raya. The Gunners and Raya’s club, Brentford, have agreed terms for the Spanish goalkeeper. He will compete with Aaron Ramsdale for the No.1 jersey in north London.

According to various reports, Arsenal will spend nearly £30 million to sign Raya. They have now confirmed the departure of Turner, who spent just one season at the Emirates, serving as a backup to Ramsdale.

“It feels great to be here,” Turner said on Nottingham Forest’s website.

“It’s a great challenge and a great step in my career.”

The USA international made seven appearances for Arsenal, all in cup games. He kept four clean sheets and conceded four goals. Now at Forest, he hopes to make a splash as the Reds prepare for their second season back in the Premier League.

Incidentally, Turner won’t have to wait long to reunite with Arsenal. His new team, Forest, will travel to the Emirates on Saturday to face Mikel Arteta’s side in their opening game of the new Premier League season.
