Another season under Mikel Arteta saw Arsenal youngsters put up a decent fight for the Champions League qualification.

Bukayo Saka has won Arsenal’s Player of the Season award for the 2021-22 campaign.

The England international is the first player since Thierry Henry to win back-to-back Player of the Year award at Emirates. A brilliant season saw Saka featuring in all of Arsenal’s Premier League games throughout the campaign.

The 20-year-old scored 11 goals and seven assists for the Gunners as they pushed to secure a top-four finish.

Mikel Arteta’s men saw Tottenham leapfrogging them from the fourth spot in the final stages of the campaign. But that wouldn’t undermine the great development of Saka and other Arsenal talents this season.

Saka claimed 58% per cent of the total votes, fending off strong competition from Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowe. By winning the award, the winger joins an elite club of Arsenal players who have won the award more than once.

The young star, however, is still far off Henry’s record of four Player of the Year awards at Arsenal. By winning the prize one more time, Saka can join Liam Brady and Tony Adams, who have won three times each.

Arsenal have already started their efforts to extend Saka’s contract at the club. The player’s current deal runs until 2024, with the Gunners having the option to extend it for another year.
