Going into the final hours of the winter transfer window, Arsenal have released one of their players with immediate effect.

Arsenal and goalkeeper Alex Runarsson have mutually agreed to terminate their contract.

The Gunners confirmed the agreement on Thursday afternoon. This leaves Runarsson available to join another club with no transfer fee included.

According to Danish outlet Bold.dk, Runarsson will join FC Copenhagen. The reigning Danish champions want to bring the 28-year-old in as a second-choice goalkeeper behind Kamil Grabara.

Runarsson previously played for FC Nordsjælland in Denmark between 2014 and 2018.

The Iceland international joined Arsenal from French side Dijon on a four-year deal in 2020. He made six appearances for the first team. In recent years, he went on loan to OH Leuven in Belgium, Turkish side Alanyaspor, and Welsh team Cardiff City.

Runarsson left Cardiff on Thursday after spending the first half of the season on loan at the Championship club. He made eight appearances in all competitions, conceded 14 goals, and kept one clean sheet.
