Arsenal marched past the Black Cats to secure their spot in the EFL Cup’s semi-finals.

Arsenal defeated Sunderland with a 5-1 result in their Carabao Cup on Tuesday. The Gunners earned their fourth consecutive victory as they ended Sunderland’s EFL Cup dreams.

Arsenal came into the match on the back of their Saturday’s 4-1 win over Leeds United. Similar to that game, Arsenal dominated the first half. Eddie Nketiah opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Nicolas Pepe doubled their lead 15 minutes later.

Sunderland came back into the game when they scored their first goal of the night in the 31st minute. Following a brilliant through ball, Nathan Broadhead defeated Ben White in a race to make it 2-1 before the break.

However, Arsenal ruined their opponents’ dreams of mounting a comeback right at the start of the second period. Nketiah scored his second goal of the night by converting a precise low cross from Nuno Tavares. Arsenal then pushed to secure the victory by extending their lead, and they soon managed to do this.

Following a run from the right-hand side, Pepe sent a precise cut back to, which found Nketiah at the perfect spot. The 22-year-old completed his hattrick with a stunning backheel from six yards out as soon as he received the ball.

Arsenal continued their attack until they completed their perfect night by scoring their fifth goal in the last minute. Pepe provided his second assist of the night as he passed the ball to Charlie Patino inside the box. The English midfielder, who was playing his senior debut for the Gunners, converted the assist with a precise low ball.

Arsenal displayed yet another brilliant attacking performance as they continued their winning streak. The Gunners will face Norwich City in their next league game on Sunday.

On the other hand, Sunderland will continue their League One campaign with a game against Doncaster on Monday. The Black Cats are currently third in the league.
