The Gunners started the new season with a dramatic title win.

Arsenal defeated Manchester City in the Community Shield match, claiming the trophy for the 17th time. A tense penalty shootout saw Mikel Arteta’s side preventing City from claiming their fourth trophy of the year.

A last-minute equalizer

Both sides started the first half conservatively, preferring not to expose their backline to many attacks. However, Kai Havertz missed two chances to put the Gunners ahead toward the end of the first period.

After the break, City gradually established their dominance, increasing the pressure on Arsenal’s backline. The arrival of Cole Palmer, who replaced Erling Haaland in the 64th minute, proved to be crucial as he opened the scoring for the Premier League winners.

Palmer’s stunning shot from the corner of the box almost won the game for City but Arsenal came back with a last-minute equalizer.

Following a corner in the 11th minute of the extra time, Leandro Trossard‘s deflected shot found the back of the net, keeping the Gunners in the game.

Missed penalties from Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri then completed Arsenal’s comeback. The Gunners converted all four of their penalties, claiming their first trophy of the new season.
