The Gunners clinched a crucial home victory before the international break.

Arsenal defeated Manchester City 1-0 in their Premier League game on Sunday. A late match-winner from Gabriel Martinelli sealed the Gunners’ win at Emirates.

What happened?

The standout fixture of the weekend started with an attritional first half as the two sides struggled to create serious chances. The Citizens were lucky to go into the break with 11 men as Matteo Kovacic was nearly sent off for tackles on Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.

The second half started with Arsenal pushing for an early opener, but Eddie Nketiah and Martinelli failed to convert their chances inside City’s box.

City lacked enough attacking edge to beat their opponents’ in-form backline before Mikel Arteta changed the course of the game with three changes in the 75th minute.

Only ten minutes later, Arsenal made it 1-0 after Martinelli converted Kai Havertz’s assist inside the box. The Brazil international’s shot was deflected off Nathan Ake’s head before finding the back of the net.
