The game began to heat up toward the end of the first period, with the referee showing five yellow cards in the span of only 15 minutes.
Continuing on the same note, Newcastle successfully controlled the midfield after the break. The Gunners kept their control over the possession, gradually intensifying the pressure throughout the second period.
Arsenal came very close to scoring when Pope made a fantastic foot save to prevent Eddie Nketiah from scoring the Gunners’ match-winner in the 88th minute.
By holding on to their defensive integrity, Newcastle continued their crazy unbeaten run since August 31. Arsenal, on the other hand, might see their lead over City shrink to five points if the Citizens beat Chelsea on Thursday.
