The highly sought-after 44-year-old Dutchman had been touted as a top contender for the Tottenham Hotspur job after Antonio Conte’s departure in March.

Arne Slot has withdrawn his name from consideration for the Tottenham job, saying he wants to stay on as Feyenoord manager.

Slot led Feyenoord to the 2022/23 Eredivisie title and held talks with the Rotterdam-based club on Wednesday about a potential extension to his contract.

“I have been hearing a lot of rumors going around about other interest in me,” Slot said.

“Although I am thankful, my wish is to stay at Feyenoord and continue working on what we created last year.

“There is not – and there has not been – transfer conversation and yesterday’s meeting was exclusively for an extension. All talks with the club have always been only in that sense. Looking forward to next season with Feyenoord.”

Who else has been linked with Spurs?

Various reports had linked Tottenham with Julian Nagelsmann. But talks with the former Bayern Munich boss never materialized. Vincent Kompany, another rumored target, silenced doubts over his future by signing a new five-year contract with Championship winners Burnley earlier this month.

Allegedly, Spurs also made an approach for Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi.

After Antonio Conte left the club in March, Tottenham appointed Cristian Stellini as interim manager. The Italian lasted four games before the club dismissed him. Ryan Mason has since taken over for a second spell after previously holding the role briefly at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The eighth-place Spurs have taken just four points from six matches. They have their final game of the campaign against relegation-threatened Leeds on Sunday.
