Bundesliga football is back after a two-week international break, with Bayern Munich to head to the Schuco Arena to face Arminia Bielefeld.

The reigning champions are naturally expected to defeat the newly promoted Arminia on Saturday. Then again, considering all the shock results of late, who can rule out the underdogs? After all, it was only a few weeks ago Bayern lost 4-1 to Hoffenheim in this crazy congested list of fixtures.

While only two points separate the teams in the league standings ahead of their first encounter since 2009, which Bayern narrowly won 1-0.

Arminia Bielefeld Form & Stats

Uwe Neuhaus’ side have arguably been the Bundesliga’s surprise package for this season. Straight out of the second-tier, they’ve grabbed four points out of a possible nine (P3 W1 D1 L1) to enter the top-10. Not bad for a team tipped for relegation, right?

Arminia will, no doubt, be keen to bounce back from their first defeat of the campaign to Werder Bremen. It was an unfortunate 1-0 loss, which came courtesy of Leonardo Bittencourt’s first-half strike. But the players still gave a good account of themselves, as they’ve done in all three of their games.

Arminia’s unbeaten home record in 2020 (P10 W8 D2), meanwhile, suggests a surprise result at the Schuco Arena cannot be ruled out either. It’s just a question of whether the hosts can create opportunities for their attackers. As proven by Hoffenheim earlier this season, Bayern aren’t immune to defensive frailties while playing a high line.

Key Team Stats
  • Under 2.5 goals scored in their last three league games.
  • Haven’t lost a competitive game at home since October 2019.
  • Four clean sheets in their last five home league games.

Bayern Munich Form & Stats

The European champions head into the match on the back of a 3-0 DFB-Pokal Cup win over Duren on Thursday, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scoring twice on his debut and Thomas Muller netting the other goal.

Notable names, such as Robert Lewandowski and Manuel Neuer, were rested from the clash. And, with another quick turnaround of fixtures coming, Hansi Flick may be tempted to make more rotations on Saturday. After all, Bayern have seven games coming up in the space of 24 days.

Regardless, the Bavarians boss will be under pressure to deliver with the club fourth in the standings. It’s been a roller coaster of a season so far. From mauling Schalke 8-0 in their opening game to losing 4-1 away at Hoffenheim, the visitors will be keen to avoid any more upsets in this one.

Key Team Stats
  • Won 11 of their last 12 away games in all competitions (W11 L1).
  • Over 2.5 goals in their last five away league games.
  • Won 15 of their last 16 league games.
  • Lost just once in their last 43 games against promoted clubs (W40 D2).
