The Blues hope to defend their World Cup title by ruining Messi’s dream of winning the tournament.
Olivier Giroud believes Lionel Messi will not have “the best night” when Argentina face France in the World Cup final.
France reached the tournament’s final for the second time in a row when they defeated Morocco 2-0 on Wednesday.
Les Bleus must lock horns with Argentina, who hope to clinch their third World Cup under the captaincy of Lionel Messi.
Speaking ahead of the game, Giroud said his side are ready to “try everything” to stop the Argentine icon.
He said: “Messi is an incredible player, but we are not going to let him enjoy the best night he can have. We want to win this game. We want to win another World Cup.
“We will try everything to stop him. But there is not only Messi in that team. They have got great players who work for the team also. I think that is why they are so strong.”
France defeated Argentina in the last-16 stage of the 2018 World Cup. N’Golo Kante played a big role in controlling Argentina’s attacking line in that thrilling match.
But France must do without the injured midfielder in their upcoming game against the Albiceleste.
Giroud added: “I remember back in the days of 2018, N’Golo [Kante] was all the game on his back, behind him. But this time I don’t know what the plan will be. We will see with the manager.”
