The Albiceleste managed to claim their third World Cup trophy with a host of new players.
Sergio Aguero is optimistic about Argentina’s post-Lionel Messi future due to the likes of Alexis Mac Alister.
Argentina became the first non-European nation to win the World Cup since 2002. The Albiceleste’s squad was a fine mixture of experienced stars and younger talents.
Lionel Messi stole the show in Qatar, but the likes of Emiliano Martinez, Angel Di Maria and Julian Alvarez were vital to Argentina’s success.
Aguero has praised Mac Alister, who has attracted interest from several elite clubs after his fantastic World Cup campaign.
“Mac Allister had an incredible World Cup. It does not surprise me to read that he is already coveted by other teams,” Aguero told Stake.com.
“He is young and intelligent, with great ball handling and he knows how to find spaces very well in a football where there are fewer and fewer spaces.
“He will continue to grow with the competition, he already showed his qualities.”
Asked about a possible replacement for Messi, Aguero added: “Players like Leo appear from time to time.
“Hopefully in a few years another one will come out with those conditions. How Leo appeared after Maradona.
“In the meantime, we have many young players who are taking over and who have the winning mentality, character and ability to continue competing at the highest level.”
