The Albiceleste bounced back from their shocking defeat against Saudi Arabia.

Argentina defeated Mexico 2-0 in their World Cup game on Saturday. Lionel Scaloni’s side claimed their first victory in the World Cup to reach the second spot on the Group C table.

Messi to rescue!

Argentina struggled to find their feet in the game despite Mexico staying in their own half.

El Tri controlled Lionel Messi with heavy man-marking while preventing Argentina from finding spaces between their defensive lines.

The Albiceleste, however, looked much better as soon as the second period started. They effectively increased the pressure on Mexico’s backline as Angel Di Maria broke through their backline from the right flank.

Scaloni’s side finally broke Mexico’s resistance with a sublime striker from Messi. The Paris Saint-Germain star latched onto Angel Di Maria’s pass behind the box before slotting a precise low shot past Guillermo Ochoa.

Mexico made a few attempts to get back into the game but lacked enough discipline to create any serious chances.

Argentina then secured their victory with another banger, this time from Enzo Fernandez. Following an assist from Messi, the 21-year-old broke into the box from the left-hand side before curling home a sublime shot to make it 2-0 in the 87th minute.

The victory puts Argentina behind Poland on the Group C table. Messi and co can secure their top spot on the table by beating the Eagles on Wednesday.
