Homegrown Olympique Lyonnais star Houssem Aouar insists he is not disappointed that his long-anticipated move to Arsenal failed to materialize.
Arsenal had been trying to land Aouar throughout the entire summer but had failed to meet Lyon’s staggering €60million asking price.
After failing to persuade the French side to green-light the deal, the Gunners went all-out for Thomas Partey in a €50million deadline-day deal.
Despite failing the seal a switch to the Premier League, the 22-year-old playmaker has nothing to regret about, as per the Daily Mail.
“Of course, I asked myself all the necessary questions,” Aouar said.
“I am in the headspace to have a great season with my club and get back the points that we have lost.
“So of course we are going to try to do the best season and to try to put the team and the club back in its rightful place, at the top of France.
“Disappointed? I am the opposite. I am at home, in the club that I love, with my friends and my family.
“So, certainly, I have all my bearings, and it is giving me even more motivation to have a good season and to bring the club back into the top places in France.”
Aouar made his international debut for France in a 7-0 thumping of Ukraine on Wednesday after earning a call-up from Didier Deschamps.
He continues to be one of Arsenal’s top priorities, and if he manages to replicate his last season’s performance, another Gunners’ attempt could be on the cards next summer.
