The elimination of Real Madrid and Liverpool does not make winning the Champions League any simpler, insists Bernardo Silva.

Champions League lost one of its strongest contenders when Real Madrid were knocked out in the Round of 16 round.

Liverpool, the defending champions, were also eliminated at the hands of Atletico Madrid prior to the three-month coronavirus enforced break.

In the quarter-finals, Manchester City are set to face Lyon. Neither of the teams have tasted success in Europe’s biggest cup competition in their entire history.

Given the one-legged nature of the tie and their ability to perform in clutch moments, Pep Guardiola’s men are considered favorites to proceed and eventually lift the trophy.

Bernardo Silva, however, feels Saturday’s match will not be as straightforward as people think it is going to be.

“Anything can happen. Juventus were knocked out by Lyon. We have seen a lot of surprises in the competition over the last years. It’s very difficult to predict the games and the results in the competition,” said Silva, as the Guardian reports.

“The fact that Liverpool are out, Real Madrid are out, it’s not going to make our path any easier. That would be a wrong thought.

“All the teams in Lisbon are here because they deserve it. We need to be at our best level to win games and try to reach the final.”
