The Tottenham left-back limped off only 23 minutes into the game.
Tottenham defeated Norwich City 3-0 in a Premier League clash on Sunday. The Spurs celebrated their third consecutive league victories after displaying an impressive performance on home soil.
However, the injury of a key player overshadowed Spurs’ victory. Tottenham boss Antonio Conte substituted Sergio Reguilon in the 23rd minute as he struggled with an injury.
Ryan Sessegnon, who received a red card in Spurs’ 2-1 defeat against NS Mura, replaced Reguilon in left-back. The 21-year-old displayed a solid performance as Spurs climbed to fifth place on the Premier League table.
In a post-match interview, Conte provided a positive injury update on Reguilon.
He said (via Spurs’ website): “Reguilon is a generous player, because he started the game, and he wasn’t 100 per cent. I spoke with him at the end of the game, and we stopped him at the right time. I hope to have him very soon. It’s not an injury, only fatigue in his muscle.
“On one hand, I was disappointed with this situation. On the other, I think Ryan Sessegnon had the possibility to play.
“This player is very young, he needs to feel confidence and to feel also the right atmosphere, that’s he’s playing for an important shirt. He has the capacity, the quality, but he has to work. I’m pleased for him, and for Doherty, when he came in, he played very well. We need all the players in the squad. We have to play many, many games and they have to be ready.”
The victory against Norwich was the second time Tottenham won by more than a two-goal margin in the league. The Spurs will hope to retain their form for their upcoming Europa Conference League battle against Rennes. Conte’s side need to win the game to qualify from Group G of the third-tier competition.
