The French forward insists his main priority during the January transfer window was to join the Andalusian club.
Anthony Martial left Manchester United amid his long-running struggles to get game time at Old Trafford. Following weeks of speculation over his future, the Frenchman eventually announced he had agreed to join Sevilla on a loan deal.
Having made only two Premier League starts this season, Martial looks to find a fresh start at Ramos Sanchez-Pizjuan. In a new interview, the Frenchman has revealed two European giants were keen to sign him this winter.
He told Diario de Sevilla: “It’s true Juventus tried to sign me,
“I was talking to my agent and told him that I preferred to go to Sevilla. It was the best option for me and my family.
“Barcelona spoke with my agent. But as I said, I spoke to my agent and told him, ‘My priority is Sevilla’. And when I say something to someone, I don’t change it, I keep my word.”
Martial also confirms he has taken a pay cut to join the La Liga heavyweights.
“Both Sevilla and I have made an effort so that I could come,” he added.
“I have less salary, but I also know that paying my salary is an effort for the club. So we’ve both made an effort. But I know that this effort will be good for both parties.”
Sevilla are second in La Liga, standing six points behind league leaders Real Madrid. Julen Lopetegui’s side are on a quest to win the club’s first league title since 1945.
Martial made his Sevilla debut in his side’s goalless draw against Osasuna last week. The Andalusians will return to action as they take on Elche in a league game on Friday.
