Pedri got a surprise when his idol Andres Iniesta wished him all the best in a video message for his debut campaign at Barcelona.

Pedri may only be 17 years old, but he’s already won himself quite the reputation as one of Spanish football’s brightest young talents following an impressive campaign in the second division with Las Palmas.

The winger, who officially joined Barcelona for €5m earlier this month, even captured the interest of Bayern Munich.

The European champions allegedly wanted to sign him on loan for next season with a buy option included despite Pedri having not even set foot in Camp Nou. Nothing materialized in the end, though.

Pedri is now in Catalonia and preparing for his debut campaign, with his idol Iniesta taking the time to wish the young star all the best.

“I wanted to wish you all the best and that you enjoy the moment,” said the Blaugrana legend in a video message on the club’s Twitter.

“[I hope you] learn a lot and that everything you wish for and fight for is fulfilled.”

The Spaniard managed four goals and seven assists in 36 outings in the second division last season for Las Palmas, who finished ninth in the standings.

Now it’s on to the big leagues for Pedri in Barcelona, who have won the Spanish top-tier division LaLiga five times in the last eight seasons.

Reflecting on his first few weeks at the club, Pedri said: “I’ve been welcomed very well and I’m very happy. I’m really happy to have this opportunity.

“Training at the Ciutat Esportiva is a luxury. I hope that I can enjoy the facilities for many years. I’ve been amazed.

“Right away, from the moment I met my teammates, I’ve felt really good. [Francisco] Trincao and I, for example, have got on very well. Likewise, with Matheus [Fernandes].

“I am really looking forward to enjoying time with all of my teammates and learning from them.”
