The former Blaugrana captain has assessed the club’s chances of silverware in Xavi Hernandez’s first full season in charge.

Andres Iniesta is ‘convinced’ Barcelona will be title contenders in every competition under Xavi this season.

One win in four games has left Xavi in the firing line. Barcelona are third in Group G in the Champions League, and unless Barca overturn a three-point deficit to Inter Milan in the final two games, demotion to the Europa League awaits. They’ve also slipped three points behind Real Madrid in LaLiga after last weekend’s 3-1 Clasico defeat.

But Xavi has vowed to give his all to turn things around and maintains the aim for this season is still to win silverware.

“Barcelona always has to be a candidate for that,” Iniesta told Onefootball about Barca’s domestic and European title chances.

“I think the team, with the signings, with the players that joined, plus the ones that were already there, it’s a really good team, across the board.

“It’s a very complete team, very competitive, and from there, I believe Xavi, in that sense, is doing a magnificent job to try to convey what he wants for the team and how to play. Now, whether to win or not is what is difficult, but I’m convinced that they will be fighting for everything for sure.”

Barcelona next host Villarreal at Camp Nou on Thursday evening for another LaLiga match.
