Agnelli is among the original founders of the European Super League project.

Former Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli has reiterated his support for the Super League project.

In 2021, Agnelli left his role as the chairman of the European Club Association (ECA) to launch the Super League. The project, however, collapsed shortly after its unveiling due to backlash from football fans and the media.

Juventus, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are the only clubs who’ve stayed committed to the breakaway competition. The Super League organizers are planning to launch a modified version of the tournament later this year.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Agnelli said: “UEFA’s monopoly must be broken to give clubs a financially stable future.

“A future in which clubs don’t fall if they don’t qualify for European competitions once.

“This is a problem for any club. With such uncertainty, it’s not possible as a club to make sustainable and sound long-term decisions.

“This is why I’m in favour of a league system at the top in European football, with more financial and sporting opportunities for every club. It’s necessary, because if it remains predictable like now, the public will move away from football.”

Agnelli left Juventus in November amid serious allegations of financial misconduct by the club. Last month, the Italian FA suspended the former Juve chairman from football for two years.
