A 16-year association is at risk, with Los Blancos reportedly refusing to budge on the new contract demands of their captain.
Carlo Ancelotti admits Sergio Ramos remains a “very important player” for Real Madrid without providing any guarantees over his future at the club.
Ramos, as things stand, is set to leave Real Madrid for free as his contract is due to expire in less than a months’ time.
The highly successful center-back reportedly rejected a one-year contract extension offer from the club as he carries the intention of signing a longer deal.
A move away from the Spanish capital has been mooted for the 35-year-old, who is said to be a transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
“I just arrived and I still need to talk to the club. We will do that in the next few days,” Ancelotti said on Ramos’ future at his introductory press conference, via ESPN.
“I didn’t imagine a Madrid without Ancelotti, but it happened.
“Ramos is a very important player for Madrid. It has been in all the successes the club has had. Let’s talk to the player. I know they are trying to renew, but I don’t know the details. When I know, I will be able to say something else”.
