After the initial uncertain statement issued by the Egyptian FA, there is crucial news regarding the Liverpool star’s COVID19 test.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah tested positive for the COVID19 on Friday. And now according to Egypt team doctors, he has mild symptoms and will go through one week of self-quarantine.
Moreover, in an interview with The Associated Press, Mohamed Abou Elela revealed that Salah might have contracted the virus following his attendance at his brother’s wedding. However, he is not sure regarding this information. The Liverpool frontman tested positive on the day of Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Togo. Consequently, Salah will now miss the Reds’ first game after the international break which is against the current Premier League leaders Leicester City.
Abou Elela affirmed with the Liverpool team doctor that Salah will be under isolation for the next seven days under Egyptian health regulations.
“He’s a mild case – he doesn’t have severe symptoms,” Abou Elela told the AP in a video call from Cairo. “He has to self-isolate in Egypt until his test returns negative and then, of course, he can travel back.”
Although, there was no further disclosure concerning Salah’s current fitness situation. The 28-year-old attended his brother’s wedding in Cairo and was seen without a mask with dozens of individuals.
“I cannot deny,” Abou Elela responded when asked if Salah could have been infected at the wedding with little social distancing. “No one knows because … unfortunately, we still don’t know everything about the virus. My answer is maybe yes, maybe no.”
In addition, Salah was present in an award ceremony in Cairo on Wednesday conducted by the Egyptian FA. There was confusion after the association announced the Liverpool striker’s result for the first time on Friday. The statement was taken off and replaced with information about three players other than Salah who tested positive.
Nevertheless, the Egyptian FA confirmed Salah’s positive result from a second test later.
