Dani Alves has offered defender Sergino Dest some simple advice involving Lionel Messi if the youngster wants to succeed at Camp Nou.

Dani Alves has offered Barca defender Sergino Dest some simple advice. The USMNT star should simply pass the ball to Lionel Messi whenever he can.

Alves and Messi regularly linked up along the right flank during the Brazilian’s time at the club. The youngster now occupies the right back spot and will no doubt have ambitions to succeed under Ronald Koeman.

Since making his debut, Dest is yet to be involved in any goals across his first nine appearances for Barcelona. However, he has shown plenty of promise as an attacking fullback.

Alves was pretty much among the best in his position during his Barca days. To achieve similar or better success, he tells the 20-year-old what he must do.

“If I have to give Dest advice, it’s very simple: pass the ball to Messi,” Alves told RAC 1.

“Sergino Dest has a lot of quality and has a chance of succeeding at Barca, but I don’t like to make comparisons. It happened to me with Cafu…they don’t make sense.”

Speaking back during his presentation, Dest indeed revealed Dani Alves is his role model and he’ll no doubt take the veteran’s advice seriously.

“Dani Alves is my role model, he plays in the same position and I have seen many YouTube videos of him and I have learned a lot,” the USMNT star said in October.

“His teammates are here, at Barcelona, and I can ask them for advice. I want to be a player similar to him.”

In his time at the club, Dani Alves racked up 101 assists and he is one of the very best names Dest could ever get footballing advice from.
