Algeria win the newly organized tournament ahead of their title-defending campaign at AFCON.

Algeria faced Tunisia in the final of the first-ever FIFA Arab Cup on Saturday. Despite several opportunities from both sides, the game ended in a goalless draw after the regular 90 minutes.

However, Algeria edged out their opponents in the extra time.

Les Fennecs showed dominance right from the start of the first half and finally broke the deadlock in the 99th minute. Following a quick buildup, Amir Sayoud curled the ball past the keeper with a stunning behind-the-box strike.

Tunisia pushed hard to get the equalizer in the remaining minutes of the extra time. They were very close to scoring a dramatic last-minute goal, but their final effort backfired.

Tunisia keeper Mouez Hassan came forward to try his luck on a last-minute corner. However, the Carthage Eagles lost the ball, only for Yacine Brahimi to make it 2-0 by running into the empty net.

Algeria are now the first winners of the newly organized FIFA Arab Cup. This is a huge boost for the national team ahead of this January’s AFCON.

Algeria will have to defend their 2019 title this winter. They will face Sierra Leone, Equatorial Guinea, and Ivory Coast in the group stage.
