The German goalkeeper has ended his two-year loan spell at Monaco.

Alexander Nubel will not return to Bayern Munich this summer, according to his agent.

Nubel joined the Bavarians on a free transfer from Schalke 04 in 2020. However, Manuel Neuer‘s presence at Bayern convinced him to accept an immediate loan move out of the club.

The German star struggled for consistency during his two-season spell at Monaco. But the French side were keen to make his contract permanent this summer.

Having rejected Monaco’s offer, Nubel will return to Bayern Munich ahead of the next season. But the 26-year-old hopes to land a new move away from the club before the transfer window closes on September 1.

“We’ve always said it doesn’t make sense for Alex to come back to Bayern while Neuer is still there,” Stefan Backs said on Wednesday.

“He’s fit again now. That’s why I’m looking for a new club for Alex – one that will take him forward as much as possible.

“Criterion number one is that he has to play; criterion number two is at the highest possible level. That means preferably the Champions League or Premier League. The Premier League or club that plays internationally are possible targets.”

Bayern Munich are reportedly open to accepting a €15-20 bid for Nubel, hoping to also include a buy-back clause.

The German giants are yet to receive a formal offer, but Sport1 has claimed the goalkeeper has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

Another Bayern keeper, Yann Sommer, is also heavily linked with a move away from the club. The Swiss international, who is under contract until 2025 at Allianz Arena, is one of the candidates to replace David De Gea at Manchester United.
