A thumping victory on Sunday saw de Godenzonen become the champions of the Netherlands with three games to spare.

Ajax have been crowned the champions of the 2020/21 Eredivisie season.

Ajax’s success came after they beat lowly Emmen in an emphatic fashion, with Jurrien Timber, Sebastien Haller, Devyne Rensch, and Davy Klaassen all getting on the scoresheet in the 4-0 win.

The Dutch giants have averaged an impressive three goals per game so far in the league and have managed to amass 79 points – 14 more than second-placed PSV – from 31 matches.

Only twice in their history – in 1971/72 and 1997/98 – have the Amsterdam club previously claimed the league title with at least three matches left to play

“It is very high. A 7.5 or an 8, I don’t know. It’s hard to say, I’ll leave that to you,” replied manager Erik Ten Hag when asked to rate his side’s season out of 10, via Goal.

Captain Dusan Tadic told NOS about the title triumph: “I wanted this, the club wanted this and the people want this. I’m always hungry, that’s the most important thing.”

Having also secured the KNVB Beker two weeks ago by Vitesse Arnhem 2-1 in the cup final, Ajax have now completed a double.
